Sylvia L. Flores, PhD
Sociology Associate Professor
Dr. Sylvia Flores, a proud Rio Grande Valley native, has built an impressive academic career that spans multiple disciplines. Her educational journey began at South Texas College, where she earned her Associate's degree. She then pursued two Bachelor's degrees at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, followed by a Master's degree from Texas A & M International University. Her academic pursuits culminated in a doctorate from Northcentral University.
Since 2010, Dr. Flores has been imparting her knowledge and passion for sociology to students at South Texas College as an Associate Professor. She firmly believes in the power of research to inspire students to engage with their communities and effect positive change in the world.
In addition to her teaching duties, Dr. Flores has held leadership roles in Alpha Delta, a Sociology Honors Society for 2-Year Colleges, serving as both Board Secretary and President. Her dedication to excellence in education has been recognized with the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Awards in 2019 and the League of Excellence Award from the League for Innovation in the Community College in 2023.
As a published author, Dr. Flores's research has been featured in esteemed publications such as the Journal of Learning in Higher Education and the International Journal of the Academic Business World. She has also contributed to proceedings in the International Conference on Social and Educational Sciences.
